Running in the sand

SMA Beach 5K and Sand & Sun Fest will be Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Ocean Deck, 127 S. Ocean Ave., Daytona Beach.

Race begins at 10 a.m. Packet pickup and onsite registration starts at 8 a.m.

The event will be on the beach outside the restaurant. For runners, this is a chip timed event with age group awards for first, second and third place, and best overall male and female. Participants may also walk the course.

Custom die-cast medals for all finishers. T-shirts and goodie bags guaranteed for all pre-registered participants

Free childcare in the KidZone for children ages 2 and older provided by Easterseals.

Free parking and valet, limited to Ocean Deck parking lots.

Halifax Health-Hospice 5K rescheduled

The Halifax Health-Hospice 5K has been rescheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Port Orange City Center.

Packet pick-up and pre-registration (in person) will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Hospice Port Orange Care Center, 3800 Woodbriar Trail.

Due to the fundraising nature of this race, no refunds are available. Halifax Health will honor registration or sponsorship for the new date.

Speedway open house

Daytona International Speedway will host an open house from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10.

Attendees can explore the state-of-the-art facility free, but are encouraged to make a reservation at daytonainternationalspeedway.com/OpenHouse.

Guests also will be able to check out the amenities inside the venue with guided tours of the Axalta and Toyota Injectors, Trioval Club, start/finish line seating and the Harley J’s and Rolex 24 Lounge hospitality areas.

Parking is available outside the Axalta Injector in the Midway, located between the venue and International Speedway Blvd. No coolers or backpacks will be permitted for this event.

DeBary recreation program registration

DeBary Parks and Recreation will host registration for several programs.

Youth Dodgeball for boys and girls ages 6-14 will be from Jan. 4 to Feb. 22, register by Jan. 2. The cost is $60 per child, which includes includes jersey and participation award.

Youth Kickball for boys and girls ages 6-14 will be from Jan. 7 to Feb. 18 at Rob Sullivan Community Park, 200 W. Highbanks Road.

Adult kickball registration will be from Nov. 18 to Jan. 10. Games will be Friday nights at 6:15 p.m. Jan. 24 to April 3, at Rob Sullivan Community Park.

Brewer’s Cup Results

Smyrna Yacht Club sponsored the 20th annual Brewer’s Cup sailing race Oct. 26.

A fleet of 11 sailboats competed along the Intracoastral Waterway, starting at marker 15 in the Mosquito Lagoon and sailing north to SYC.

The wind was nearly perfect mostly out of the south. Blue skies prevailed for most of the day with a bit of rain just before the finish.

Winners:

•First Place: Wicklow Way, Skipper Richard Gailey, DeLand

•Second Place: Morning Dew, Skipper Chris Herbster, Ormond Beach

•Third Place: Rumble Bee, Skipper Philip Styne, Orlando

After the race, an awards reception was at the SYC Tiki.

Play shuffleboard

The Ormond Beach Shuffleboard Club will meet at 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (weather permitting) at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex at 700 Hull Road.

Shuffleboard courts are near the playground area. Membership with unlimited access to courts is $15 per year.

Memorial golf tourney

The 17th annual Jane Cerrone Memorial Golf Tournament will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at LPGA International – Jones Course, 1000 Champions Drive, Daytona Beach.

Registration and continental breakfast will be at 7:30 a.m.

Entry fee is $75 per person, which includes golf, breakfast, lunch, range balls, special events, prizes and commemorative tournament gift, optional 50-50 and raffle. Entry fee is due by Monday, Nov. 11.

Checks may be made payable to Daytona Beach Junior Golf Association.
