The Daytona Tortugas will face the Jupiter Hammerheads at 7:05 p.m. Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22, and 5:35 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, 105 E. Orange Ave,Daytona Beach.

Online registration opens for free sports physicals

Registration for AdventHealth’s free sports physicals for Volusia County Schools student-athletes is now open at VCSSportsPhysicals.com.

Appointments are required and must be made online.

The pre-participation sports physicals are available to all Volusia County public school student-athletes in middle and high school for the 2021-22 school year.

The physicals will be performed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 3-5, in the Rolex Lounge of Daytona International Speedway, 1801 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach. The hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Health and safety measures will be in effect. In order to adhere to CDC social distancing guidelines, limit one parent or guardian per athlete/family.

The online registration process includes a link to download all required paperwork.

VCS and AdventHealth will offer free electrocardiogram screenings at this year’s event. ECG screenings will be provided by Who We Play For, a nonprofit that aims to eliminate preventable sudden cardiac arrest among students, as part of the free physical.

Regatta enthralls sailors and beachgoers

There was plenty of wind May 1-2 for the annual Lipton Cup Regatta sponsored by the Smyrna Yacht Club.

A fleet of 16 sailboats from across Central Florida and as far away as Charleston, S.C., competed in two classes.

Saturday’s windward/leeward races gave beachgoers a sight of billowing sails off the Flagler Avenue beach approach in New Smyrna Beach; while Sunday’s race course was set by the bell buoy at the entrance to Ponce Inlet.

Performance Division results: First Place, Obsession, Capt. Norm Church; Second Place, Lively, Capt. Chris Herbster; Third Place, Naut On Call, Capt. Eddie Evans.

Cruising Division results: First Place, Sailaway, Capt. Phil Cornett; Second Place, Strange Bird, Capt. Dan Mielke; Third Place, Incommunicado, Capt. Dave Smith.

Lady Angler Tournament

The Halifax Sport Fishing Club's 33rd annual Lady Angler Tournament will be Saturday, June 5.

It will be a dolphin bull/cow tournament. The captain’s meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at the club at 3431 S. Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange. There will be food, music and lots of raffles.

The weigh in will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Off the Hook Restaurant, 133 Inlet Harbor Road, Ponce Inlet. The awards ceremony will be Tuesday, June 8, at the club.

Ormond Beach Middle School 5K

The Ormond Beach Middle School PTSA will host the second annual “Race into Summer” OBMS 5K Run/Walk from 8:30 to10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22.

Running will be off campus on a route over the Granada Bridge along Riverside Drive and Halifax Drive in Ormond Beach.

The start and finish area will be at the Ormond Beach Regional Library at 30 S. Beach St. Bagels and coffee will be available prior to and after the race.

Funds raised by this event will benefit the students and staff of OBMS.

Entry fees through May 21 are $25 or $20 for OBMS students and local cross country and track teams, and $30 race day registration.

Tennis club meets

The Redneck Tennis Club for seniors 55 and older plays tennis at 7:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Detwiler Park, 701 Horton Ave., New Smyrna Beach.

New members welcome. Participants should bring racket and something to drink. All experience levels welcome. Free to play.
