Youth football clinic

AdventHealth will host Kids & Pros, a free one-day youth football safety clinic, from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Aug. 11.

NFL alumni will teach athletes ages 7-13 safe tackling techniques and position fundamentals as well as important life skills lessons at Daytona International Speedway, 1801 W. International Speedway Blvd.

Participating former Atlanta Falcons NFL players include Buddy Curry, a University of North Carolina linebacker; Bobby Butler, Florida State University defensive back; and Robert Moore, a Northwestern (La.) State University safety. Additional NFL Alumni will be added.

Also, parents are encouraged to attend an information session on football safety, proper equipment fitting and concussion awareness at 9 a.m.

The clinic is free, but space is limited and registration by a parent or legal guardian is required. No equipment is necessary. For a reservation or more information, visit

Tortugas face Stone Crabs

The Daytona Tortugas will face the Charlotte Stone Crabs at 7:05 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, Tuesday, Aug. 13, Wednesday, Aug. 14 and Thursday, Aug. 15, at 110 E. Orange Ave., Daytona Beach.

The Tortugas will face the Palm Beach Cardinals at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, Saturday, Aug. 17 and 5:35 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18. The team will be on the road the remainder of the week and will return home Monday, Aug. 26, to face the St. Lucie Mets.

Basketball clinic

Execute to Impact will host a free basketball clinic for boys and girls ages 6 to 17.

Learn basketball skills from local coaches from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 10, at Whistle Stop Park, 651 Roberts Road, Edgewater.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Parents must register children for clinic. Participants will receive lunch after the clinic.

Tennis club meets

The Redneck Tennis Club for seniors 55 and older plays tennis at 7:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Detwiler Park, 701 Horton Ave., New Smyrna Beach.

New members welcome. Participants should bring racket and something to drink. All experience levels welcome. Free to play.

Support Special Olympics

The Sons of the American Legion Post 120 will present the Special Olympics Volusia annual free Summer Picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Sunshine Park, 1135 Riverside Drive, Holly Hill.

There will be hamburgers, hot dogs and sides. Hosted by the City of Holly Hill with music by "DJ" Brian Innes. Bring a chair or a blanket and come support the Special Olympics.
