Halifax Sport Fishing Club meets April 15

The Halifax Sport Fishing Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at 3431 S. Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange.

There will be a cooking seminar featuring Chef Jeremy Wimmer of Milliie’s Restaurant and Catering in Daytona Beach Shores. Millie’s is a made-from-scratch kitchen serving fresh, local seafood. Chef Wimmer has been cooking there since 2018 and specializes in seafood. His presentation will include a discussion and demonstration of various techniques for preparing seafood.

A brief business meeting will be at 7 p.m. The seminar will start at 7:30 p.m.

House Next Door sets annual 5K fundraiser

The House Next Door's annual 5K fundraiser virtual event is April 1-30.

Registration to run/walk is $30 and includes a printable race bib, finisher certificate, greenhouse themed medal, #HND5K T-shirt and vinyl sticker. Donations are welcome.

Registration or donation will directly impact under served families with mental health therapy, assist students who are struggling in school, provide parenting classes, help prevent child abuse and assist children and their caregivers in coping with the trauma of sexual abuse.

Fishing challenge

The Halifax Sport Fishing Club’s 21st annual Offshore Challenge will be April 10-24.

Participants will pick two days to fish during those dates.

The awards ceremony will be April 27.

Lipton Cup Regatta

Boaters can now register for the the 88th Lipton Cup Regatta of the Smyrna Yacht Club, which will be May 1-2.

Cheer and dance into history in Daytona Beach

Since 1996, cheer and dance teams from top universities throughout the county have gathered in Daytona Beach to compete for the national title and coveted golden trophy.

After a hiatus in 2020 due to the pandemic, the event returns to the Ocean Center and Bandshell April 7-11, marking 40 years of competition and 25 years in Daytona Beach.

Golf tournament

The Rotary Club of DeLand will host its annual charity golf tournament at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at the DeBary Country Club.

Entry fee is $125 per person, which includes golf fees and cart, continental breakfast, lunch and goody bag.

County, city officials headline Rotary race

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood and Deltona Commissioner Victor Ramos will headline the Rotary Club of DeBary, Deltona and Orange City 5K and 10K River Run April 25.

The run will be on the Spring to Spring trail in Gemini Springs Park in DeBary.

The race will be managed by a professional race management group and has been adapted to pandemic guidelines. Prizes will be awarded to the winner in each age category.

Entry fee is $30 per person for 5K and $40 per person for 10K. Proceeds benefit Rotary Club charities.

Keller Williams Realty will host a Red Day Golf Tournament at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Cypress Head Golf Course, 6231 Palm Vista St., Port Orange.

The cost is $85 per golfer and $300 per foursome, which includes continental breakfast, lunch, cart/tournament fees and prizes.

The Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce will host the 52nd annual Mayor's Golf Tournament from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Halifax Plantation Golf Club, 3400 Clubhouse Drive, Ormond Beach.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.

The cost is $125 per individual member, $450 per foursome members, $225 per non-members and $550 per non-members foursome.

Reservations are limited and on a first come, first served basis. Guaranteed reservations must be accompanied with payment in full. Cancellations must be made two weeks prior to event for refund. Scramble event, soft spikes are required.
