New swim league starting

Learn-to-swim lessons are offered for youth ages 6 to 10 at the two Daytona Beach public swimming pools.

Registration is at Cypress Aquatic Center, which is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

The city is starting a non-competitive swim league that focuses on endurance, strength, dives and turns.

Swimmers must be at least 7 years old and able to swim front crawl and backstroke 25 yards to participate.

Practice will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday at the Cypress center at 981 George W. Engram Blvd.

League membership is $40 per month for each participant, however, financial scholarships are available for qualifying youth.

Daytona Beach pools

The City of Daytona Beach offers swimming pool access at the Campbell Aquatic Center, 400 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and the Cypress Aquatic Center, 981 George W. Engram Blvd.

Visitors will have their temperature checked before entrance and should adhere to social distancing.

Cypress has open swim hours from noon to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Lap swimming hours from noon to 2:15 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

The daily admission is $3 for adults and $2 for 17 years old and younger. Discounts are available for swim packages. Cypress is limited to 50 people occupancy.

Campbell has open swim hours from 2 to 5:30 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Groups are restricted to 10 or less people. Aqua Zumba is offered 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Campbell is limited to 25 people occupancy.

Bathrooms are open at both facilities, but loitering is not allowed.

Nova Community Center

Nova Community Center is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at 440 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach.

Pickleball and basketball are offered Monday to Saturday. Basketball is played Sunday.

Reservations are necessary. The cost is free for residents or $4 daily for yearly membership for non-residents.

South Ormond Neighborhood Center

South Ormond Neighborhood Center is open from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 176 Division Ave., Ormond Beach.

The center has baseball fields, outdoor tennis and basketball.

Ormond Beach Tennis Center

Ormond Beach Tennis Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday to Sunday at 38 E. Granada Blvd.

It offers play for members and non-members, and classes seven days a week.

Senior fitness class

A senior fitness class will meet at 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at the Ponce Inlet Community Center, 4670 S. Peninsula Drive.

The class will focus on cardio, strength and balance. Handheld weights, and resistance bands and ball will be used. All equipment provided. Participants should bring a water bottle.

Gentle Yoga Classes in the Shores

The Daytona Beach Shores Community Center has Gentle Yoga classes at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3000 Bellemead Drive.

Classes are taught by Mardi Williams, a certified yoga teacher, and include floor to standing poses to help improve posture, balance, energy, breathing, strength, flexibility and relaxation.

The cost is $8 per class. Participants should bring their own mats, plus straps and blocks if they use props. Shores residency is not required.

Exercise for the maturing body with Senior Fitness Specialist ️Artie Gardella will meet at noon Fridays at First Baptist Church of Port Orange at 316 Church St.

Gentle yoga at the Hub

The Hub on Canal offers a gentle yoga class with Becky Collins from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursdays at 132 Canal St., New Smyrna Beach.

With a focus on lengthening and breath work, Ms. Collins will lead participants through mild stretching techniques that will help tone the body and de-stress. Beginners are welcome. Suitable for ages 10 and older. Limited to 11 students.

The fee is $10 per class, payable to the instructor.
