Sit and be fit

Adults can “sit and be fit” during a weekly program at the John H. Dickerson Heritage Library, 411 S. Keech St., Daytona Beach.

The library staff leads low-impact exercises from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays. The program focuses on stretching and strengthening routines from a seated position.

Senior center

Ormond Beach Council on Aging Senior Center, 351 Andrews St., offers these exercise programs.

•New Balance & Stability, 8:45 a.m. Tuesday. Fee is $5. Registration is required.

•Chair Yoga Stretch, 9:45 to 10:20 a.m. Tuesday. Fee is $5.

•Cardio & Strength Program, 8:30 a.m. to 9:20 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. Hand-held weights needed.

Daytona Cultural & Leisure Services offers fitness programs at Peggy Schnebly Recreation Center at 1101 N. Atlantic Ave.

•Seniorcise, 9 to 9:45 a.m. Mondays. The cost is $3

•Free Video Exercise, 3 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays.

•Free Cardio Drumming, 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesdays and 4 to 4:45 p.m. Thursdays

•Yoga, 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays. The cost is $10.

Swimming Centers

The Cypress and Campbell Aquatics Centers are heated with a Geothermal heat system and available for year-round swim and exercise.

Cypress Aquatics Facility, 981 George W. Engram Blvd.: Hours are 1 to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Fees are adults $3 and youth $2. One lane is reserved for lap swim any time. Fee is $3 per visit.

Campbell Aquatic Center, 400 S. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd.: Hours vary based on season.

A Silver Sneakers Fitness Class meets at 10 a.m. Mondays at 1050 Live Oak St. in New Smyrna Beach.

Get fit and flexible at the Edgewater library

Get moving at the Edgewater Public Library, 103 Indian River Blvd., which hosts ongoing exercise programs for adults.

Beginners of all ages can try chair yoga from 1 to 2 p.m. every Monday. This gentle form of yoga uses a chair for seated poses and for support during standing poses.

Seniors can take part in low-impact exercises from noon to 1 p.m. every Friday.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Bring a bottle of water.

Yoga in the Shores

Daytona Beach Shores Community Center has added a second Evening Gentle Yoga class at 3000 Bellemead Drive.

Gentle classes are now at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes are taught by Mardi Williams, Yes2Yoga LLC, a certified yoga teacher, and include floor to standing poses to help improve posture, balance, energy, breathing, strength and flexibility. The cost is $7. Shores residency is not required.

Silver Sneakers Senior Fitness meets at10:30 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, at the Ponce Inlet Community Center, 4670 S. Peninsula Drive.

Piggotte Community Center

Chair Yoga class is offered from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday at 504 Big Tree Road, South Daytona.

The cost is $7 per person, per class. If you are able to come 15 minutes early, there is Sky Styx Yoga free. The class is designed for all skill levels.

Hatha Yoga is offered from 5:45-7:15 p.m. Tuesdays. The cost is $10 per person, per class. Bring a mat and towel from home. Come 15 minutes early to experience Sky Styx Yoga free.
