Bait and switch
No one likes to be tricked, especially by what was once a reputable pharmacy that has been filling my prescriptions for more than 10 years.
This well-established nationwide pharmacy recently partnered with an insurance broker and sent an offer to review my drug plan. They suggested one or more of my prescriptions may have been dropped from my provider.
They conveniently offered a code, leading to an accurate list of my drugs, but there was no review nor evaluation of my current plan or formula. My drug list has now been compared to other various plans offered by this new insurance company.
This is a blatant attempt to switch people away from their current plan to plans that are beneficial to another company and it reeks of an unscrupulous business practice. Also, don't be fooled by their offer to join a Medicare Advantage Plan.
In response to: “Doesn't like hippies”
Wow, Hometown News I Love you, but some of the people who write into the Rants and Raves really need a reality check?
Loved that “I hate hippies” pointed out the hippies were right about the Vietnam War but he or she complained about them doing drugs and being angry at the vets. Sorry, you are 100% wrong on that.
It wasn't the soldiers we were angry with, it was the presidents who kept it going for money only. Eight of my cousins served in Vietnam and all except one came home with heroes' welcomes. The other came home in a flag-draped box, which when we got to the airport to pick his body up, everybody stood silently while he was unloaded from the plane and put in the hearse.
So, I am not sure if you got your view of hippies from bad movies or bad drugs you took. Those hippies fought for the end to a bad war. They fought for women's rights. They fought for veterans' rights and what did you do? Sit on the couch and complain?
It was just a mess
Saturday, I went to the seafood festival in Ormond Beach.
I saw people with three or four dogs at the festival. The dog owners were letting the dogs crap near the vendors selling food. They were not picking up the crap. How can you eat that food?
Hey dude, chill
As a former weekend hippie who attended college classes on weekdays, I think there was as much good to keep in mind about it as bad.
A (grand)father who maintained a four decade career in education while helping to support my family, now in retirement I'm a better person for my blend of both conformist and counterculture beliefs and practices.
Obeying laws, voting, maintaining property, and investing compatibly co-exist with an opposition to war, vegetarianism, sense of joy and individuality. Praising one lifestyle and belittling another ---albeit button-downed traditional or free-spirited iconoclastic -- seems a pointless lost cause for both. To the non-judgmental epigrammatic point, "Live and let live."
"I am willing to let go. I release others to experience whatever is meaningful to them and I am free to create that which is meaningful to me." (Louise Hay, renowned American motivational author of You Can Heal Your Life, 1984).
Patience is a virtue
I was wondering why people are playing Christmas music already.
We haven't even gotten to Thanksgiving. Why are people rushing? People should take one day at a time. May God give us patience to wait for things.
Don't park on me
Many of us moved to the unincorporated Volusia County area of Silver Sands knowing the law states boats and RVs need to be located behind the property lot lines.
We chose this area to live in because we believe that boats and RVs parked in driveways are an eyesore and depreciated the value of the neighborhood.
When complaints are made to the county code enforcer, nothing is done. Why are my taxes being paid to have a code enforcer who doesn't enforce the code?
And if you believe them when they tell you your complaint is anonymous, shame on you. They have caller ID.
Also, if you moved into this neighborhood thinking you could park whatever you wanted in your driveway, shame on you, too. Do your research before make big life decisions.
Fire and rescue for real
I just sent a thank you letter addressed to Port Orange Mayor, Council and Fire Chief of Shift A1, Engine 71, who helped me rescue a four-day-old kitten after animal control called me, after one and a half hours, to tell me traffic was his priority and I can pick up a cage at the Police Department Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
This was Thursday and I heard the kitten crying at 7 a.m. as I walked my dog. I could not reach the kitten in a city maintenance yard behind an eight-foot fence, so that afternoon I made an effort to find help and it was the firemen. It says fire and rescue on their small white truck.
They came, they found the crying kitten and I rushed him to the vet. I have been bottle feeding him and could not find someone who would take him. He is tiny. My dog mother's him. He would not have survived if the firemen had not helped by rescuing him. Thank God for our firemen who will come to the rescue.
He passed it on
Recently, my son came to take me to lunch at Peking Buffet on State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach.
Talk about all the fine people we have here in New Smyrna Beach. A gentleman paid for our lunch. I want to thank him.
Needs more space
For the past months, we've noticed on Smith Street near the Utilities Building in New Smyrna Beach, specifically the work week, Monday through Friday, a Camaro parked partially on the grass/road.
We're surprised the auto has not been sideswiped. Is there not any employee parking available to be off this narrow street?
In response to: 'No time left for you'
Our church on Turnbull Bay Road in New Smyrna Beach does post our service times on our sign out front. Please come by and see us.
Too many flyovers
I reside in Port Orange on Woodview Drive and, along with my neighbors, we are constantly being bombarded by low-flying airplanes.
They fly directly over my house or very, very close by. Starting time is a few minutes past 6 a.m. until late evening, sometimes after 12 a.m., seven days a week. These airplanes are noisy cause vibrations and many sound like flying Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
I am usually in my screen room most of the day and have to cope with constant airplane noise and even though I wear ear plugs, I sometimes have to cover my ears with my hands because of the decimal noise volume. At times one airplane is not out of sight when another one is nosily approaching.
On Tuesday, Nov. 18, I decided to count the flyovers from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The number of flyovers was 85. There were probably more than 100 plus, if I would have started counting at 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. That's 3,000 a month, staggering numbers. How many others are experiencing similar situation? Couldn't they fly different routes, different days? There were nine flyovers while I submitted this.
