Princeton Review ranks Stetson among best

Stetson University has been recognized as one of the leading undergraduate institutions in the nation by The Princeton Review for the fifth year in a row.

This honor, given to only about 15% of America’s four-year colleges, appears in the 2020 edition of "The Best 385 Colleges."

Published annually since 1992, the issue contains detailed profiles of each college, which includes excerpts from student surveys and rating scores in eight categories, including academics, admissions selectivity and financial aid.

Driver’s Education

Registration for the fall semester Driver’s Education program has begun at all high schools.

Registration forms can be picked up from each high school’s guidance department. Students interested in earning credit in Driver’s Education must register. Students must have their learners permit in hand when registering.

There is no fee for the program and students will earn a half-credit elective and a waiver of the road test for an operator’s license.

The After-School Program begins Sept. 3 and runs through Dec. 10 from 3:45 to 6:15 p.m.

The program will be offered at DeLand High School (Monday and Tuesday class) and University High School (Tuesday and Thursday class).

The 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday program will begin Sept. 7 and will run through Nov. 16. Students will need to bring lunch each day and wear closed toe shoes.

The program will be offered at Atlantic, New Smyrna Beach, Pine Ridge and Seabreeze high schools.

DSC music groups open to community

With the cultural season opening in October, the Mike Curb College of Music, Entertainment and Art at Daytona State College invites local musicians to join the Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra or Jazz Ensemble.

There are no fees unless college credit is sought. associated with participation except for those who are seeking college credit.

The Daytona State College Community Symphonic Band will have an open rehearsal for new and returning members at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, in the Goddard Center at DSC, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach.

The Daytona Beach Civic Orchestra will have its first rehearsal of the season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the Goddard Center.

The Daytona State College Jazz Ensemble begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, in the Goddard Center.
