The Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce will present a Business After Hours at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, hosted by the Plaza Resort and Spa at 600 N. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach.

The cost is $10 for chamber members and $35 for non-members. Valet parking is $10 or free parking is available in the north lot on a first-come, first parked basis.

Halifax Humane Society CEO accepts new position

Miguel Abi-hassan, the CEO of Halifax Humane Society since 2011, was selected to lead global disaster response efforts representing an international animal welfare organization.

HHS achieved many milestones through his tenure, including being presented with a Classy Award honoring the most innovative nonprofits nationwide.

The society has not yet named a new CEO.

Halifax Health adds two doctors for Primary Care

Halifax Health has added two board-certified family physicians to two of its Primary Care clinics.

Dr. Alisha Dessavre will be at Primary Care Daytona Beach in Suite 240 at 201 Clyde Morris Blvd.

Dr. Dessavre is a native of central Illinois. She earned a bachelor's degree in community and public health from Iowa State University and a master's degree in public health from the University of Illinois. She worked for the Illinois Department of Public Health as a health inspector before earning her medical degree from the University of Illinois. She completed her family medicine residency at Halifax Health.

Dr. Irma E. Urrutia-Potter with be at Primary Care Ormond Beach in Suite 2A at 1688 W. Granada Blvd.

Dr. Urrutia-Potter, completed medical school at Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City. She has post-doctorate training in cancer prevention and epidemiology from the University of Arizona Cancer Center.

She did her post-graduate residency training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She had a private practice in the Chicago for several years and was medical director for a non-profit organization there.

Heart Surgery program earns three-star rating

Halifax Health | UF Health Heart Surgery program has earned a three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons for its patient care and outcomes in aortic valve replacement combined with coronary artery bypass grafting.

The three-star rating, places the program among the elite for AVR+CABG surgery in the United States and Canada

Bike shop awarded

The Hub Cycling was presented the 2021 Bicycle Retailer Excellence Award by the National Bicycle Dealers Association.

The association is a non-profit organization established in 1946 that promotes the interests of cycling and specialty bicycle retail.

Fewer than 200 shops qualified for the honor.

Flight academy launches learn at home program

Epic Flight Academy has launched “Epic Anywhere,” a flight training program in which the instructor flies the training aircraft, a Cessna 172 Skyhawk, to a student’s airport of choice for two-week blocks of flight training.

The service is available in the lower 48. All instructors are FAA-certified and adhere to professional standards and safety protocols.

CareerSource staffers awarded

Two workforce professionals from CareerSource Flagler Volusia were honored at the 2021 Workforce Development Professional Summit Sept. 12-15 in Orlando.

Richard Rademacher, CareerSource Flagler Volusia’s assessment lab coordinator, is being recognized as the area’s 2021 Workforce Champion. A native of Volusia, Mr. Rademacher has assisted close to 1,500 individual customers and provided more than 4,000 services.

Also recognized was Senior Multimedia Designer Valerie Uy, who was awarded the region’s Lighthouse Award. The Lighthouse Award honors workforce development’s unsung heroes, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to handle a broad range of responsibilities and changing priorities. Her greatest contribution was the introduction of online and interactive workshops.
