On Golden Pond

“On Golden Pond” opens at Daytona Playhouse Friday, Jan. 4, at 100 Jessamin Blvd., Daytona Beach. Shown are Norman (Larrie Tiffany) and Ethel (Judy Svolto) at Golden Pond.

The iconic “On Golden Pond” by Ernest Thompson will be performed at Daytona Playhouse Friday, Jan 4, to Sunday, Jan. 13, at 100 Jessamine Blvd., Daytona Beach.

The funny and moving play tells the story of Norman (Larrie Tiffany) and Ethel Thayer (Judy Svolto), who are spending their 48th summer at their tranquil home on Golden Pond in Maine. Norman, a crusty old curmudgeon with a heart of gold, is celebrating his 80th birthday and is struggling to deal with aging. Ethel, aware of his every need, sees his flaws and loves him unconditionally.

Their estranged daughter, Chelsea (Jennifer Kinsey), upends their idyllic summer when she arrives with her fiancé (Spencer Meehl, who also directs the show) and his sassy teenage son, Billy (Isiah Meehl). Toss in the local mailman (Aaron Collins), Chelsea’s first boyfriend, and you have an evening of tears of joy and sadness wrapped up for your enjoyment.

Evening shows at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for ad, $18 for seniors and $8 for youth.
