Arts on Douglas will host a reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibit “Our Endeavors” by Stacey Fletcher, an Ormond Beach mixed-media painter, from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at 123 Douglas St., New Smyrna Beach.
The gallery will feature the smooth jazz stylings of TRio with Ron Gilotti on upright bass, Howard Post on guitar and Tyler Rosenke on drums. Light hors-d'oeuvres and cocktails will be available.
The exhibit will be on view in the Feature Gallery Oct. 5-26. An Artist Talk will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11.
For Ms. Fletcher’s inaugural solo exhibit at Arts on Douglas, she will present a vibrant new body of work that comes alive with explosions of color. Her seems to take on a spontaneous order, however, she points out “it is not just an impulsive approach to gestural mark making, but the love of material and process that trumps the imagery.”
Her enthusiasm for process and her unhampered experimentation with materials comes through in this new work, with each piece invoking a playful sense of whimsy, even as she seeks to work out deeper themes about life’s goals and journeys while exploring tensions between what is and is not seen on the surface.
Ms. Fletcher was born in South Georgia. She is a professor of studio arts at Daytona State College. She earned a master's degree in fine arts from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Valdosta State University. Her professional art experience has included exhibits of her work in the United States and abroad as well as participation in an International Painting Residency in Chelm, Poland.
