The Daytona Playhouse fundraising gala, “A Pirate’s Ball,” will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the ballroom of Daytona Beach Resort and Conference Center, 2700 N. Atlantic Ave.
There will be a silent and live auction, dinner, dancing and live entertainment. Dressing up like a pirate, pirate’s wench or even a damsel in distress is not required but encouraged with prizes for best costumes.
The entertainment features music with The Anchor Sea Shanty Band, Pirate magic with William Mayhem and The Ancient City Sirens Dance Troupe.
The cost is $60. The gala is a major fundraiser for the Playhouse as it pursues Phase 2 of a planned renovation.
“In 2015 we accomplished a million dollar renovation to the front of the Playhouse, providing patrons wonderful new restroom facilities, a wheelchair lift, a new box office and an upstairs rehearsal hall,” said Playhouse President Kathy Thompson in a news release. “Now we need to complete the back portion of the Playhouse to build a set construction work area, costume and props storage and expanded and modernized dressing rooms. We are determined to apply for a matching ECHO grant from the county this coming year before the county grant expires.”
Daytona Playhouse has been serving Volusia County with live theatre since 1946. The permanent home was built in 1955 and opened in March 1956. The 2015 renovation was the first update to the Playhouse.
